NEW DELHI: In the recent Delhi
like North Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi and East Delhi past has often been in
the news for cases of theft, rape and robbery. Aware of the need for
self-defense training, area residents began to join various martial arts
classes.
The number of people who learn
the art of self-defense in West Delhi and South Delhi are higher than other
parts of the National Capital Region. Sensei JK Singh, director Knockout
Martial Arts & Fitness, which has seven centers across the NCR, confirmed
the trend. "If we train 40 people a month in Gurgaon, then west Delhi,
which includes Uttam Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Ramesh Nagar, Rajouri Garden,
Janakpuri, Dwarka, Noida and Gurguan. We have about 60-80 people in one
month" , he said.
Specialized Courses
Martial arts training academies
located in West Delhi have specialized courses for all age groups, for kids,
adults and the elderly, although women constitute a particular category
students of these institutes. Brijesh Yadav, who has been training students in
martial arts for the past ten years, said: "Young adults and children are
one of the most regular students that we receive."
Depending on factors such as
the location of classes, number of students in each batch and the frequency of
course, costs range from Rs 2500 to Rs 5000 per month.
"A training program
organized within a smaller batch may start from Rs 2500 while a program
organized in a park can cost somewhere between Rs 1000. We also offer courses
at concessional rates for some, "informed Singh.
Players learn that the most
popular form of martial arts is the mixed form which is a combination of
Taekwondo, Karate, Jiu jitsu, Muaythai, Kickboxing, Boxing, Kung fu, Tai chi,
Judo, Gymnastics and Martial arts Weapons.
